There are at least a dozen different guitar/bass cases I would like to physically inspect before considering purchase however, that is not to be.
My choices were between this SKB TSA rated model, a Gator case with basically the same specs as well as standard inexpensive regular cases made by these companies. I ordered one of these and though it looked good and held the bass great, there was an audible snap made when the aluminum valance on the halves of the two shells passed each other to close. They would bind up and make a noise as they passed each other. I returned it to get a replacement but the same thing happens with this one. It is a design flaw that I will fix, though I shouldn't have to.
Why I don't. I sampled the Gator TSA rated case during this time and that one was defective to the point the neck never touched the neck cradle when laying the bass in the case. I guess it might have done so when closing the case but you want to see your $$$K instrument laying pretty in there.
I like this one because it is made in the USA, was rather affordable and looks to keep my bass safe for some time.

4 stars because it still has the engineering/manufacturing flaw that causes the valance to impinge on itself.
