Gallien-Krueger 700RB-II Bi-Amp Bass Amplifier (480/50 Watt) Review

I am a drummer and I've played next to a good number of bass players. Most of them ran Ampeg. A couple ran GK. One ran a MarkBass. When I decided to get a bass to learn the instrument (already play guitar, sing, etc) and complete my home studio for the non-band downtime...I looked at Ampeg, and didn't see as much value. I looked at SWR, and MarkBass, and felt the same way. GK seemed to just fit more what I was after considering the artists that use GK equipment.

First on the list was a cab - I bought a GK410NEO in 4 ohm, knowing I'll never have a need for a 2nd cabinet. I bought that from another vendor for 15% off. I originally purchased this head from the same vendor also at 15% off, but after it getting on backorder, with the backorder being extended twice, I decided to cancel that order and get from Amazon.

By appearances, this was direct from GK to Amazon to me. Nice! The other vendor couldn't manage that?

Anyhow, unboxed it, plugged it in. Now, I've recorded my bass guitar (it's Peavey Mill. BXP-AC 5string - not a high dollar bass by any means) - and I've gotten some great bass tracks from it with a few tools built into Sonar X1 Producer...but, plugging into this amp is a whole 'nother realm. It sounds absolutely **HUGE**!!! The amount of volume this amp puts out is deceptively loud - which is kind of the nature of bass...but still.

As a drummer, I play loud, clean, energetic and very powerful. This bass amp has those same attributes about i without sounding sterile. I am confident that it could hold it's own with me playing my drums at full-tilt. Even in addition, it has a post-EQ DI out, so it can plug straight into a PA. I can't keep up with that short of being mic'd...

So, should I in my later musical career years, decide that bass is what I'm going to play (since I'm not that good of a guitarist), then this rig will carry me. Should I continue with recording...this rig will do that too.

EDIT:
Couple of months of use with my bass player at practice, and this thing is an absolute **MONSTER**...I'm sitting over 6ft away from it during practice, playing my drums at a moderate volume, and it will rattle things in my chest/gut. Beast-mode...seriously.
