I have a number of instruments and I just love the Levy's products. When it was time for a banjo strap, I quickly chose this model, and while it is of the high quality and great design that I epxect from Levy's products, I hadn't thought carefully enough about the width. If your banjo has a solid brass tone ring and the weight that comes with it (I believe my GF-85 is about 14 pounds), then this strap may not be supportive enough when standing with the banjo for extended periods of time. I use it mainly to keep the banjo in place while seated, but I can tell that if and when I need to perform with the Banjo, if I'll be standing up, then I'll be ordering a wider strap.

MOD 102 DIY Guitar Amplifier Kit Review

This was my first amp kit build so I don't have any past experience to compare to, but I had a good time with the MOD 102. The kit is complete, uses high quality components, has very good instructions, and it works! The build wasn't exactly easy, but in the end everything functions well. It took me about 3 days to get it together.

Sound-wise, it's a nice, toneful, 5 watt guitar amp. It's not my favorite low-power amp (that would be my Marshall Class 5), but it's not 1/2 bad either. It gets pretty loud, but not as loud as the Marshall. The tone is Fendery on the clean side, and then gets up into a crunchy EL84 distortion sound as you crank it up. The tone controls offer an impressively wide range of good sounds with the overall tendency toward bright-- though I'm sure this varies widely with speaker & cab choice. Overall, it's a good sounding amp, and it sounds really great with an OD pedal.

My complaints are minor: my MOD 102 makes more noise than I would like, but I suspect this has more to do with my mediocre building skills than the kit quality or design. Also, I don't care much for the knobs & I didn't use the stickers/labels at all. But don't let these minor quibbles stop you, the MOD 102 is fun & a good value.

I'm hoping MOD comes out with an 18 watt marshall clone kit soon. . .

Peavey Cirrus Bass String 6XL Review

I have a six string Dean Edge, with stock strings installed which are not bad at all and sounded great but sound guitary at the 5th and 6th string. With the cirrus, oh there is an extra punch in the freaquency spectrum and very balance with highs and lows. The bass sounded some characteristics of the cirrus bass, omen schecter extreme and a bit of a schecter riot with your tone preference and pickup selection.Great strings, nice job peavey.

I bought these for my Ibanez exotic wood guitar to bring out its hidden potential. I had a little trouble fitting them to the bridge because of the taper of the pins. I had to sand them down slightly and add a small groove to my bridge. The difference that the bone pins made was unbeleivable. I thought I would only get a little bit brighter tone and slightly more substain if anything. It is like a different guitar, I was very pleasently surprized. I would have give the bridge pins five stars but I had to do a lot of work to make them fit right.

I used to take guitar string clippings, go out on my front porch as a 13-14 year old and heat up the end of the steel string clippings with a lighter then burn holes in my picks to get a good grip, my own idea. 20 years or more later and Pickboy makes millions off of my idea.
